👻 Why do ghosts wear sheets? | Bulletin #113

This week: did we scare you? 🎃

Hotel Henry 📍 Buffalo, New York, USA 📸 Jeffrey Czum

Because boo jeans are too expensive 👖 But seriously the reason ghosts are depicted as having a cloth over them is that coffins used to be quite expensive, so many people were wrapped in linens when they found their final resting place. Thus, if someone were to come back to haunt you (good luck with that), they'd rise up still covered in their cloth garments. We’re just glad that floating coffins never caught on.

In Case You Missed It

Whether you prefer your autumnal season to be more pumpkin-spiced or spine-chilled, we have a collection of stories that you won’t be able to exorcize from your head for days. In our adventures, we pride ourselves in highlighting a wide variety of characters, and sometimes the folks we run into aren’t necessarily… living.

COFFIN IT UP!

On the outskirts of Southwest Nevada, a temple to all things coffin is the featured landmark. While no slots can be found, you can bet you’ll find a coffin gazebo. At this casket-covered property, truly anything goes when it comes to coffins– even weddings.

IF THESE WALLS COULD TALK

A mirror that has escaped a bar three times. A beer commercial gone wrong. Many a tale can be told when you’re the oldest saloon in the state…..

WE’RE ON TOUR!

We’re a ramblin’ band on a book tour from Brooklyn to Dallas as we speak! Wally, Amanda, Dexter, and friends are stopping in 10 cities to say hi 👋 sign a few books, drop things in Little Free Libraries along the way. Are we coming to your city?

A LIFE CHANGING GIFT

Accidentally Wes Anderson: Adventures has finally the shelves, and we could just cry. Fun Fact: One of our writers, Seamus, received a copy of our first book as a present, and just a few months later, he joined our team—and the rest is history. So, we can confidently say this book may change your life.

SUPPORTING PRESERVATION

On October 28th, our great friend Matthew Dickey and The Boston Preservation Alliance will kick off a night of architecture, history, and wonderment: The 36th Annual Preservation Achievement Awards! Each project will highlight an interesting story showcasing the ways that preservation adds vibrancy to “Beantown.” Get the deets!

AWA IN SINGAPORE

That’s right, we’re honored to have our very own booth at the World Architecture Festival in Singapore November 6-8 and the one and only Kevin Siyuan will be there to spread the AWA love. Come by and say hi!
