When you think of American Pets you might imagine a hyped up golden retriever, a majestic stallion, or perhaps a sassy tabby cat. But our past presidents have walked the line on what they consider a man’s best friend with presidential pets that have included 2 alligators, a set of tiger cubs, a potty-mouthed parrot, and a mischievous raccoon named Rebecca.

Oh, and ducks love the 4th because of the fire-quackers (sorry).

Imagine if the national bird of the United States was a turkey! Well, it almost was... Benjamin Franklin famously was not interested in a bald eagle becoming the national bird, and instead opted for a turkey (something about an eagle’s bad moral character). But it was thanks to a very real bird named Peter, that Franklin’s feelings about our patriotic feathered friends changed … and the turkey went on to become the mascot of Thanksgiving…
