This week: are unicorns real? 🦄

While most countries choose national animals that actually exist- see: the bald eagle, the Tanzanian giraffe or the Canadian beaver- Scotland chose a unicorn. Not as a joke, but as a centuries-old symbol of purity, strength, and untamed power rooted in Celtic mythology. You'll find the mythical beast everywhere: carved into Edinburgh's architecture, stamped on the royal coat of arms, and standing guard outside palaces. Scotland looked at the entire animal kingdom and said, "No thanks, we'll take the imaginary horse with the horn."

OVERBUILT, UNDERATTACKEDIt took Lucca 144 years to build impenetrable walls against Renaissance cannons. They’ve never seen a single battle. They did save the city- just not from what anyone expected… |
FROM BOOS TO BRAVOAt the Apollo, the audience decides your fate. The theater has launched legends like Ella Fitzgerald, James Brown, and Lauryn Hill. But not every future star got cheers their first time on that Harlem stage. Some got booed. Some got the broom. So who survived and who didn't? |

COUNT PUFFINS FOR A LIVINGEvery evening just before sunset, volunteers on Skomer Island divide into sections, pull out hand-clickers, and count puffins on cliffs, at sea, and in the air. This isn’t just for fun - it's an actual conservation job! Over 40,000 puffins call this 1.13-square-mile Welsh island home each spring, and they're listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, making the annual census critical. Volunteers commit to roughly three months on the island, living rent-free in exchange for tallying threatened seabirds and welcoming day-trippers. So, whaddya say? Are you interested in clicking for a purpose? |
